Resolving Windows Update Lockups: The backup and restore method.

Introduction:
Dealing with Windows update lockups can be incredibly frustrating. You sit there, looking at the screen. Both times I have resolved using a kind of unusual method. Simply creating an image of the system drive, then restoring that image to the system drive.

My Experience:
It was a typical day when my computer suddenly started experiencing lockups during a Windows update. No matter what I tried, the system remained unresponsive, leaving me stuck in a loop of failed updates and frustration. In this example I used Aomei Backupper but any software that allows drive imaging and restores should work.

Step 1: Downloading and Creating Bootable Media:

If you have HIRENS boot USB handy. Its a lifesaver for this. Otherwise you can download AOMEI and create a bootable USB

Once its ready, insert it into the problematic machine, and reboot while tapping the ESC key to access the boot menu (this might vary for your machine – just google the machine and boot menu and you should find what you need).

Step 2: Backing Up the System:
Once booted into the AOMEI Backupper environment, I selected the “Backup” option and chose “System Backup.” With my external hard drive plugged in, I initiated the backup process and patiently waited for it to complete. This step was crucial as it ensured that I had a safe copy of my system before attempting any fixes.

Step 3: Performing the System Restore:
With the backup completed, I proceeded to the “Restore” tab in AOMEI Backupper. Selecting the backup image I had just created; I chose my system’s SSD as the destination for the restore. With a click of a button, the restoration process began, and I eagerly waited for it to finish.

Step 4: Rebooting and Success:
After the restoration process completed, I removed the bootable media and restarted my computer. To my relief, the system booted up smoothly, the update completed, and I was good to go. The issues that had plagued my machine during the Windows update were nowhere to be found.

Conclusion:
